One the day after Christmas, we made a trip to Paynes Prairie to see and photograph the sandhill cranes. After hiking out the La Chua Trail to the observation tower, we were returning and stopped at the bridge to talk with some 'Friends of Paynes Prairie'. We spotted a bison bull slowly wandering down the Sweetwater Dike and he disappeared into the brush. Thinking that he might emerge on the La Chua Trail, we hurried down to an opening where there was a little wooden fence. We heard rustling in the brush and suddenly this enormous animal was coming toward us. We began snapping away hoping he did not mind us on his prairie. Hope you enjoy these picture of this 'close encounter'...

These are not telephoto shots... I was ablout 15 to 20 feet away trying my best to look brave and control camera shake.
